This week we featured the lovely Alex Vissia. One third of the folk-roots trio, The Plain Janes, Alex has been writing and composing songs since the group's conception in 2000. She first learned to play the piano at the age of five, but growing up on country, western and folk music, gravitation toward the acoustic guitar ensued. Weaving pensive lyrics with thoughtful melodies, Alex delivers her songs with soulful and sincere vocals. She loves to sing. She loves to play her guitar. She loves to drink tea and get lost in used bookstores. But most of all, Alex loves to write. We featured her new song Goodnight Moonlight. This week we featured Andrea House. Andrea House is a singer with a penchant for melody whose writing floats beautifully between the hits of Patsy Cline and Billie Holiday, Willie Nelson and Irving Berlin, Allison Krauss and Norah Jones. Whether the influence is obvious or ambiguous, the focus is clear: this is a impassioned voice reminiscent of the great singers of the 1940’s and 1950’s telling stories of depth and meaning. Her songwriting is a dedication to compositions of the past, full of melody and thoughtful lyricism. We featured her song I Blame You from her 2008 release The Same Inside. Make sure to head out to her show that is part of SOSFest this weekend @ Strathcona Baptist Church.
