Derek Gust's greatest passions are cheap theatres, long distance frisbeeing and sharing the gospel and good music to his own kind, teenagers. (And all ages for that matter.) And although he gets to do the last two rocking out on the big lake bass in the award winning band “Junkyard Poets” his love for song writing and singing led him to put out his own solo cd, the mirror. To create his feel good music live, he is accompanied by the sax, flute, upright, and brushes while he runs around between guitars, piano and the odd big lake bass when things are really feeling groovy. Like a hyper Jack Johnson perhaps? He’s always making sure the audience is receiving plentiful doses of fun, while at the same time being inspired and challenged in the areas of love, relationships and faith. He writes in one song encouragingly, “if He can move the mountains, then I know He can move our hearts.” Derek with the Junkyard Poets has toured with the grammy nonimated Newsboys and has opened for many bands such as Hawk Nelson. He has also played bass for many artists including the groovy Juno award winning Greg Sczebel.
Derek's Upcoming Shows - October 14th & 28th @ Cafe Haven in Sherwood Park @ 7pm!
