When you hear The Doll Sisters, you'll recognize them. They put their own style into anything they play. The girls (Jenna & Shelby), would definitely describe themselves as roots musicians, and love the fact that being a roots musician affords them the opportunity to cover all the genres that they love so well. Bluegrass, Celtic, Folk, Appalachian, Cowboy & East Coast Canadian, to name a few. Whether they're playing carefully chosen covers, or their own originals, you will find that their music maintains the traditional integrity that is so important, but between the arrangements and the lyrics, their songs are unmistakeably thought provoking and unique. Since the summer of 2007, The Doll Sisters have been out & about playing gigs, and growing in their musicianship. They started out singing harmonies in the little log church near their families farm, and have now performed for crowds from 5 - 500. The girls' musical stylings reveal their many influences along the way, and let people know that each song is carefully planned and arranged to bring out the best possible version that represents them as well as the music. Many people have commented that they can't believe there is only 2 of them on stage - but, there is. Some of the girls musical influences include Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Rankins, The Carter Family, Johnny & June Cash, James Taylor, Great Big Sea, The Wailin' Jenny's, John Denver, Nickel Creek & The Dixie Chicks to name just a few. Jenna and Shelby have been compared many times to Alison Krauss, The Rankins, and The Dixie Chicks. If you get a chance to hear them, you'll know why. For all of their upcoming shows, make sure to check their website! *We featured their song called The Road.
